SHREK'S SWAMP — A "mud-laden, moss-covered, murky-watered swamp" might not sound like the ideal spot for a weekend getaway. But for fans of "Shrek," a new Airbnb stay could be a dream come true.
A real-life recreation of Shrek's swamp home is available for up to three guests Oct. 27-29. The two-bed studio in the Scottish highlands stays true to the DreamWorks depiction of the ogre's home, including the iconic outhouse.
It's the second such Airbnb stunt in the past few months. A similar listing touted a one-night stay in a real-life, hot pink Barbie Dreamhouse in Malibu earlier this summer.
Guests at the swamp can relax in the light of an "earwax candle," warm up by the fireplace or marvel at the rustic architecture. And in the morning? We're making waffles.
The stay is hosted by everyone's favorite talking equine, Donkey (with, of course, the backing of the local council government).
"Shrek's Swamp is lovely. Just beautiful. The perfect place to entertain guests," Donkey said. "You know what I like about it? Everything. The overgrown landscaping, the modest interiors, the nice boulders, all of it. I can't wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves."
The best part? The stay is free, although guests are responsible for their own travel to Scotland. Onion and ogre enthusiasts can request to book the stay beginning Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. MST. Booking and additional information is available on Airbnb.
