Americans love Mexican food. And according to data collected by Chef's Pencil, it's by far the most popular type of ethnic food in the state of Utah. But Americans have only been savoring this type of cuisine for 50-75 years now, The Smithsonian reports.
Despite its relative newness to the United States, Mexican food is often the catch-all term for foods with origins reaching through South and Central America. So when you think of typical Mexican food, you're really picturing a smorgasbord of South American, Central American, and even American culinary creations that make up the delicious foods Americans know and love.
