TORONTO (CP) - La-Z-Boy furniture stores in 16 cities across the country, from Vancouver to St. John's, Nfld., will be displaying travelling exhibits of quilts as part of a breast-cancer support project.

The exhibits start May 19 in Kitchener, Ont., and run until Nov. 7 in Calgary. The exhibits, as well as three fundraising auctions, feature 440 quilts collected from across North America and beyond.

The quilts are also featured in a six-month exhibit in Stratford, Ont., May 21-Oct. 24 and at Toronto's Casa Loma Sept. 10-Oct. 20.

Starting May 20, people can view and bid on all 440 quilts online. The donated quilts will be auctioned at three gala events in the fall.

The annual project has raised close to $700,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society since 1999 for community support programs for breast-cancer patients and their families.
