LONDON — West Ham co-chairman David Gold has died at the age of 86 following a short illness. Gold's death was announced by the Premier League club. Gold and David Sullivan became chairmen in 2010. Gold played for West Ham's junior team from age 13-16 then had a successful business career. He was chairman of English team Birmingham before selling his shares in the club in 2009. West Ham says the purchase of the club in January the following year "helped to steady the ship and protect the club's future during a period of great financial uncertainty."
