BELTON, Texas — Cody Hooks is an 18-year-old bull rider who competed at the Bell County Rodeo in Belton, Texas, last month. And while he's racked up a fairly impressive record in the past, he was thrown by a big bull named Twizler shortly after coming out of the gate.
The impact knocked the young cowboy unconscious, leaving him vulnerable on the ground as bullfighters attempted to control the bull. But the animal managed to turn its attention back to Cody Hooks, which could've been devastating.
Fortunately, Landis Hooks was there at the event and immediately risked his life to rush to his son's aid. As the bull lowered it's horns, the elder Hooks heroically covered his son's body. Check out the frightening video.
Despite the high risk of injury, both of the Hooks men were left with nothing more than some scrapes and bruises. It was an incredible outcome considering the impact they endured.
"Not one to post falling off, but big thanks to my dad @hooks.landis and the bullfighters last night in Belton, Tx," wrote Cody Hooks in the caption of his Instagram post where he shared the video with the world.
His hashtag? "#blessed."
