THE YARD — A good big brother knows what to do when the cows come marching in.

That's not a figure of speech.

A 6-year-old boy in China was called into action by his two little sisters when a calf, which is a huge beast to a toddler, tried to come into the yard while they were playing.

In the video, it's clear that the girls were frightened and started to cry. The first act of bravery was the older sister running and calling for her brother as the curious calf sniffed at the door.

Big brother then comes marching out with a stick in his hand, shouting and shooing the calf away as best he could. Once the calf backs out a little bit, the boy rushes forward to slam and lock the front gate.

Probably a bit frightened himself, the boy then makes a display of stomping the ground and shouting, ensuring his little sisters that he has vanquished the beast.

This little boy isn't just brave, he's also a sweetheart. The next thing he does is wrap his sisters in his arms to comfort them as they continue to cry. He even looks back at the gate several times to make sure the sneaky calf didn't somehow get back into the yard.

What really melts the heart is what he does next — he gently wipes away their tears and takes them inside.

Yes, we as adults know that a baby calf probably wouldn't have hurt them. It was just curious. (Don't talk to me about adult cows — those will kill you in the right circumstances, even though some cows are basically like big dogs. But I digress.) But none of the children knew that, and it can't take away the fact that it was a brave act by a protective and sweet big brother.
