THE POOL — Few things are more important to a child when they're at the pool than goggles.
My three kids go into small fits of panic if they don't have their goggles or can't find them. In fact, just yesterday we were at the pool and my daughter was having the time of her life, but that all stopped when she realized she didn't have her goggle. First, she panicked, asking over and over again, "Where are my goggles? Have you seen my goggles?"
Then panic turned into anger, "Who took my goggles? Did you take my goggles?"
That then turned into despair, "I can't believe I lost my goggles. Those were the best goggles ever. They were pink and helped me see underwater."
This entire production occurred in about 30 seconds. The whole time I could see her goggles sitting on the side of the pool just opposite her, but I thought I'd let her ride that roller coaster of goggle emotion for a minute before pointing them out. Once I did, everything was right with the world and she went right back to playing in the pool.
A few years back, Aidan, the star of this video (one of my all-time favorites), was at the pool and couldn't find his goggles. While you can see from the image of the video that they are right there on his forehead, I'll let you experience the brilliance of what happens for yourself.
We've all been Aidan, and I understand the struggles when you're a child looking for your goggles.
