SALT LAKE CITY — Late Thursday night, a former four-star linebacker from the Reno, Nevada, area announced on Twitter his decision to transfer to Utah.

Brandon "Ale" Kaho, who previously signed with Alabama in 2018 as a four-star recruit according to 247Sports, played three seasons before announcing his intent to transfer from the current defending national champions. In his three seasons with the Crimson Tide, Kaho recorded only 31 total tackles, including only two during the 2020 season, and spent much of his time on special teams.

Kaho provides more depth to an already deep linebacker room headlined by returner Devin Lloyd and Nephi Sewell. Utah signed four-star linebacker Ethan Calvert to the 2021 recruiting class, as well as Jonah Eliss and Trey Reynolds in December. Kaho is expected to have three seasons to play two, despite being a junior last year.

Kaho announced his decision to transfer from Alabama on Feb. 19 despite pushing for a starting role for the 2021 season. He said at the time he was grateful for the years spent at Alabama, which was "extremely valuable in my growth."

"During my time at Alabama, I have played alongside the best teammates and cultivated lifelong friendships that will continue to be a part of my life and push me to be the best version of myself day in and day out," he said on Twitter. "After much thought and consideration, I have decided to place my name in the transfer portal. I feel that this is what is best for me and the goals and aspirations that I would like to accomplish playing football."

Utah has made a name for itself with the transfer portal this season and has picked up quarterbacks Ja'Quinden Jackson (Texas) and Charlie Brewer (Baylor), and running backs T.J. Pledger (Oklahoma) and Chris Curry (LSU).
