WEST VALLEY — A 20-year old man has been arrested after ramming two police cars, hijacking a pizza delivery car and then crashing the stolen car, police said Tuesday.
According to West Valley City Police Lt. Steve Katz, the man had stolen a car earlier in the night and had pulled into a gas station on 1950 W. 3500 South in West Valley City. Police officers blocked the stolen car while the man was out of the driver's seat, putting gas into the car. The man was able to get back into the driver's seat and then proceeded two ram the vehicle into two police cars, Katz said.
The man fled the scene but was located a short time later by Domino's Pizza located near 2300 S. Redwood Road. When officers caught up with the man in the parking lot he jumped into the passenger seat of a pizza delivery car, said police. After a physical altercation between the man and the driver of the delivery car, the driver was able to exit the car. The man then crossed into the driver's seat and carjacked the vehicle to flee the scene, according to police.
The man fled northbound on Redwood Road, and officers who were arriving at that time pursued. The man then crashed the stolen pizza delivery car at the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Redwood Road. The people in the car that the man hit reported no injuries and refused medical attention on the scene, police said.
The man was transported to the hospital to be checked for injuries and will be booked into jail later tonight, Katz said.
Further details, including the identity of the man, were not released.
