SALT LAKE CITY — A motorcyclist died after colliding with a car on Highland Drive near 4600 South on Thursday, police say.

According to Unified Police Sgt. Melody Cutler, Unified Police received the call around 5:30 p.m. The motorcyclist was northbound on Highland drive and a female driver was headed southbound, Cutler says.

The woman turned into some condos and the motorcyclist, who witnesses say was traveling at a high rate of speed, T-boned the car. The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and two nurses on scene attempted life-saving measures, officials say.

The man passed away at the scene from his injuries.

Police identified the man as Luke Steed, 24, of Millcreek later on Thursday.

Northbound Highland Drive will be closed for several hours, one lane of southbound traffic is still open.
