GARDEN CITY — A semitruck crashed at the same Garden City intersection Tuesday that’s seen several crashes in the last two years.

About 7 p.m., a concrete pumper truck drove through the intersection at Highway 89 and Bear Lake Boulevard after witnesses said the truck’s brakes “appeared to be on fire” just before the crash, Utah Highway Patrol officials said.

The truck crashed into the Lighthouse Landing Gift Shop and the truck’s driver was the only one to suffer injuries in the incident.

The driver was transported to a Logan hospital with injuries authorities said were not life-threatening. Further details on the driver’s condition weren't released.

Tuesday’s crash is just the latest in several recent crashes at the intersection.

In March, another semitruck lost control and stopped about 40 feet before crashing into a structure. In that case, troopers say the heavy snow helped slow the vehicle.

Last August, two large trucks crashed in the area in the same week.

On Aug. 15, 2019, the brakes of a downhill semitrailer overheated and caused the driver to crash into a storage facility.

On Aug. 20, 2019, a large dump truck hauling asphalt crashed in the area, damaging three storage units.

In 2018, a truck driver died after crashing at the intersection.

The Utah Department of Transportation is working on a runway truck ramp in the area that is expected to be finished sometime next month, a spokesperson said.
