LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — A team is going to reach the Western Conference playoffs with a losing record for the first time in 23 years, and the race has come down to the last possible day. Today four teams — Portland, Memphis, Phoenix and San Antonio — will decide which two clubs get spots in the play-in series to determine the No. 8 seed in the West playoffs. Portland and Memphis control their fates, while Phoenix and San Antonio must win and get help. The regular season ends tomorrow, but all four of the West play-in contenders wrap up play and decide matters today.

MIAMI (AP) — Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. will miss the weekend series in Miami because of a sore left wrist. The 2018 NL Rookie of the Year was a late scratch prior to Tuesday’s series opener at Yankee Stadium and was evaluated further yesterday, revealing inflammation in his wrist.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Yankees will see how star Aaron Judge is progressing, a day after he was out of the lineup because of tightness in his lower body. It’s uncertain whether the oft-injured slugger will be back tomorrow night for the start of a weekend series against Boston. Judge was leading the majors with nine home runs and tied at the top with 20 RBIs before he sat out.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Pittsburgh closer Keone Kela is set to rejoin the team after recovering from a positive COVID-19 test. Kela will return to the injury-ravaged Pirates for a four-game series that starts today in Cincinnati. Six Pittsburgh pitchers are on the injured list, including relievers Kyle Crick, Clay Holmes and Nick Burdi. The last-place Pirates were 27th in the majors in ERA (5.32) this week and the turnover in the bullpen has been particularly jarring. Nearly two dozen pitchers took the hill for Pittsburgh through 16 games.

MONTMELO, Spain (AP) — Sergio Perez will race at this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix after testing negative for the coronavirus. His team says governing body FIA cleared him to return to the paddock for the race on the outskirts of Barcelona. The Racing Point driver missed the past two races at Silverstone in England after contracting the virus on a visit back home to Mexico last month. He visited his mother in hospital following an accident. Nico Hulkenberg replaced Perez at Silverstone and stands down. No other F1 drivers have tested positive for COVID-19 after the first five races.
