LOGAN — Just one day after former Utah quarterback Jason Shelley finalized his transfer to Utah State, the Aggies lost their previously presumed frontrunner to replace Jordan Love.

Utah State quarterback Henry Colombi has entered the transfer portal, according to the 247 Sports transfer portal.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Florida native played was projected by most to take over the starting job in the Aggies’ backfield prior to Shelley's move after throwing for 221 yards and two touchdowns in six games in 2019, in addition to 31 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries. Colombi led a young quarterback room that also included former Orem High standout Cooper Legas, a redshirt freshman; Andrew Peasley, a sophomore from La Grande, Oregon; and Josh Calvin, a redshirt freshman from Bellflower, California.

Colombi and Shelley were expected to enter fall camp — if such a thing ever exists, due to the COVID-19 pandemic — as the two most prominent frontrunners battling for the starting spot. Love left Logan with one year of eligibility remaining, but the record-setting signal-caller was drafted in the late first round of April's 2020 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Colombi's father, who is also named Henry, seemingly confirmed the quarterback's departure by thanking Aggie fans on Twitter.

"Our gratitude goes to coach Matt Wells and athletic director John Hartwell for affording my son the opportunity to pursue his education and athletic career in beautiful Logan at Utah State University," wrote the elder Colombi, who is a high school football coach at American Heritage School in Florida.

A three-star quarterback in high school, Colombi was a top-50-rated pro-style QB as a senior at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Florida. In addition to Utah State, he also had offers from Maryland, Ohio, Akron and Florida International, according to 247 Sports.
