CEDAR CITY, Utah (AP) -- Tyler Quinney scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Southern Utah to an 82-66 win over Oakland, Mich., on Tuesday night.
Davis Baker added 22 points for the Thunderbirds (2-4, 1-0 Summit), while John Clifford finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
The Thunderbirds led 42-35 at the break and outscored Oakland 13-2 in the first six minutes of the second half. Quinney, who went 13-for-15 from the foul line, hit a layup and five three throws during that stretch. Southern Utah led 55-37 with 14:20 remaining and took its biggest lead, 69-46, with 8:07 left in the game.
Drew Maynard scored 17 points to lead Oakland (3-5, 0-1). Johnathon Jones added 16 points and Blake Cushingberry finished with 14.
