LOGAN, UTAH (AP) -- Tyler Newbold scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead Utah State past UC Irvine 74-62 on Tuesday night.

Deremy Geiger had 14 points for the Aggies (5-0), while Tai Wesley added 10 points and eight rebounds.

Michael Hunter led the Anteaters (0-6) with 17 points and Eric Wise had 15 and Patrick Rembert 10.

After getting 11 points in the first half, Wise managed only one field goal in the second as Utah State tightened its defense in the paint.

The Aggies led by as many as 15 points with 5:24 to play after consecutive 3-pointers by Newbold and Jared Quayle. USU shot 69 percent from the field in the second half.

Hunter scored 12 of the first 17 points of the game for the Anteaters, nine on 3-pointers, as UC Irvine took a 17-10 lead in the first half. The first half ended 36-36.
