Tony winner Chenoweth climbs 'Apple Tree'

NEW YORK, Sep 14, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda in the Broadway musical "Wicked," will star in "The Apple Tree" at New York's Studio 54.

Directed by Gary Griffin and choreographed by Andy Blankenbuehler, the play runs Dec. 14, 2006, though March 11, 2007.

Chenoweth starred in "The Apple Tree" in the City Center Encores! 2005 production, Playbill reported.

"The Apple Tree" by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, was originally produced in October 1966, starring Barbara Harris. Mike Nichols directed.

It played 463 performances before closing Nov. 25, 1967, and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Chenoweth has been on the New York stage in "The Fantasticks," "Scapin," "Steel Pier," "A New Brain," "Epic Proportions," "Strike Up the Band," "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" and "Candide."
