COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior Luke Nevill has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time in his career.
A 7-foot-2 center from Perth, Australia, Nevill registered back-to-back double-doubles while leading Utah to a 3-0 record and the team title in the Glen Wilkes Classic last week. The senior opened tournament play with 20 points and 14 rebounds in the Utes' 79-60 win over Green Bay. He shot 7-for-9 (77.8 percent) from the floor and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Nevill collected his third consecutive double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in Utah's 83-72 victory vs. Mississippi, going 5-of-8 (62.5 percent) from the floor. He closed out the week with 16 points and six rebounds on 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) field shooting in the Utes' 66-37 win against Morgan State. Nevill also tied his career-high with three blocked shots each against Green Bay and Morgan State. For the week, he shot 69 percent from the field (20-of-29) while recording 46 points, 30 rebounds, seven blocks, four assists and three steals overall. Nevill was an all-tournament selection and was chosen the Most Valuable Player of the Glenn Wilkes Classic.
