LONDON, Sep 12, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- British Princess Diana enlisted her butler's aid in digging a grave for a friend's stillborn baby at Kensington Palace, the butler's book claims.
In his second book about his life as Diana's butler, Paul Burrell incensed British media with the allegation he made in "The Way We Were," which went on sale Tuesday.
Burrell wrote he was unsure for a long time whether to tell the burial story.
"But what I witnessed was the ultimate act of compassion and friendship, which I think reflects greatly on the boss and sums up her humanity. Acts of kindness don't get much bigger than this," the book claims.
He said Diana asked him and another butler to dig a 5-foot deep grave on the grounds of the palace, which took six hours. He said Diana even jumped in and tossed about shovels full of dirt.
The parents and Diana held a brief service and Burrell said he later filled in the grave, ABC News said.
Burrell said Diana had a sad foreboding afterwards.
"The only problem ... is that people will find this baby one day and say it was mine," the book quoted her as saying.
The report did not say when the alleged burial took place. Diana died in 1997.
