MCLEAN, Va. (AFX) - Gannett Co., a newspaper company that publishes 90 daily papers including USA Today, said Monday its August revenue grew less than 1 percent as increased revenues from broadcasting and local newspaper advertising more than offset a slight decline in newspaper circulation.
Total revenue was $585.7 million, up slightly from $582.7 million in the year-ago period. Revenue from local advertising grew 1.7 percent to $165.5 million during the month. Revenue in the broadcasting segment grew 11.2 percent to $60.4 million.
Gannett said national advertising totaled $55.5 million in the month, down 1 percent from last year. Classifieds brought in $169.7 million, 3 percent less than year-ago period.
The company reported 7.7 million daily paid subscribers in the period, 2 percent lower from a year ago. Sunday subscribers were down 2.7 percent to 6.2 million.
