(KSL Sports) Wyoming Football Coach Joe Glenn and quarterback Karsten Sween have been publicly reprimanded for comments critical of a TCU player for what they call a "cheap shot."
The tackle in question came midway through the third quarter in Wyomings game against TCU on Oct. 25 in Fort Worth, Texas. Sween was scrambling when he went into a feet-first slide, but was hit hard around the head by TCU linebacker Robert Henson.
Sween was dazed and knocked out of the game. Henson was assessed a 15-yard personal foul penalty, but allowed to remain in the game.
Sween called the hit, "dirty" and accused Henson of "clearly going for the knockout shot."
In his postgame comments, Glenn twice called the hit "cheap" and said, "That was just a terrible, terrible hit. They apologized for it, but that doesn't do any good for Karsten."
The remarks appeared in the Laramie Boomerang and Casper Star-Tribune on October 28 and 29.
The actions of Coach Glenn and Mr. Sween were in violation of MWC Sportsmanship Rule Sections 4.2-e and 4.4.5.
