PAYSON — A man died on Thursday from injuries he suffered in a crash, Utah Highway Patrol officials said Friday.

The crash injured 74-year-old John C. Evans, of Mt. Pleasant, who died from his injuries later Thursday evening.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m. when a Lincoln sedan got onto southbound I-15 from 800 South and drifted left, then swerved right before again swerving hard left and into the far left lane, troopers said in a Friday news release.

A pickup truck hauling a flatbed trailer struck the driver's side of the Lincoln, causing it to spin out and hit a minivan.

The Lincoln then came to a stop on the left shoulder.

Evans and his wife were the only occupants in the Lincoln, and officials initially thought their injuries were not life-threatening.

However, after crews removed the minivan that had been attached to the Lincoln in the crash, responders discovered the couple’s condition had deteriorated.

Evans, who was the passenger in the sedan, died from his injuries at about 7 p.m. that evening.
