THE LIVING ROOM, FROM A SAFE DISTANCE — Haircuts are a big deal. We like to pretend they aren't, but they are.

Some people spend a small fortune to get hair done. Others only trust one person to do it and drive miles out of their way to get it done. Some people just don't care and would let their dog do it if Rufus could hold the scissors.

Most of us want a decent haircut, but that's not an easy ask these days. Barbershops and salons are closed and, thanks to COVID-19, your neighbor who's good at it can't get within 6 feet of you. So, what are you to do?

This is one solution, kind of.

Brad Reed is from South Carolina, and he needed a trim — you may be working from home, but that doesn't mean you don't want to look presentable.

Not sure how to get a haircut with all essential businesses closed, Reed got an idea. He attached a razor to a broom handle and headed to his friend Stacey's house. In an effort to social distance, Reed sat in a chair in one room while Nicholson stood in another room with the broom and trimmed her friend's hair.

Did it turn out well? Of course not, but the man filming was happy to lie to Reed.

While the haircut is a disaster, I appreciate the problem solving and applaud the commitment to flattening the curve.

If you're in desperate need of a haircut you could find a broom and a razor … or you could just wait this out a little bit longer. Do whatever you like, just make sure you're doing at a safe distance.
