DRAPER — A woman was critically injured on Wednesday when her car became trapped between a semitruck and the cement barrier of the highway, Utah Highway Patrol troopers confirmed.

Northbound I-15 was temporarily closed as of 2:50 p.m., UHP Lt. Nick Street said. Traffic was being diverted at 11400 South. The highway was reopened by 7:45 p.m.

About 2:23 p.m. a red Honda Civic was exiting northbound I-15 at 11400 South when the driver made a last-minute choice to turn back into traffic, troopers said.

She then got struck and was driving in the shoulder.

A semitruck hauling rocks in the right lane saw the car and moved to try to avoid a crash, but the car became trapped between the truck and the cement barrier, troopers said.

The 43-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was flown to a hospital in critical condition.
