This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business.

I like a clean car. I know that it doesn't make sense, but I feel strongly that my car runs better when it is nice and clean. My grandchildren frequently compliment me. They say, "Grandpa, your car is always so clean and it really smells good!" Hey, that's not a bad reputation to have.

Shane Constable also recognizes the importance of clean and beautiful cars. Originally from upstate New York, Shane grew up in the custodial and janitorial business. Shampooing cars came naturally to him. After he unexpectedly lost his job at the detailing business where he had been working, he had customers who still wanted his services. For two days he washed cars for these customers until he took one of the cars he finished to a used car dealership in Layton to show what he could do and contracted to wash and detail cars.

Shane built up his business to the point where he had 7 employees and was detailing cars for 14 car dealerships. However, this didn't work out as well as he hoped since most of the time it meant he was training his own competition. Shane finally decided to give up on hiring employees and just run the business with himself and his wife, Margie. This meant he had to figure out a way to streamline the process so he could do more with less.

The key turned out to be automating his equipment. He eliminated trigger sprayers as these were tough on his hands and forearms. He created a special preparation gun that dispenses several cleaning products at once as well as a self-emptying vacuum and a carpet extractor that he never has to fill with water. In fact, Shane tells me his inventions have made detailing the car's exterior a completely automated process. He even has an automated hand waxer that buffs out surface scratches.

Shane tells me his goal is for Mint Condition Auto Detailing, located on 29th and Washington Blvd. in Ogden, to be known as the greatest detail system in the country and to share his inventions with other car detailing shops.

For Zions Bank, I'm Fred Ball. I'm speaking on business.
