CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Kihei Clark made both ends of a one-and-one with eight seconds left to provide the winning margin, and No. 22 Virginia earned its seventh victory in a row by beating Miami 46-44. Six of the Cavaliers' victories during the streak have been by a total of 13 points. Junior Jay Huff led Virginia with 17 points _ and they were the Cavaliers' first 17 points of the game. Mamadi Diakite had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Virginia hasn’t lost since Feb. 8 against Louisville. The teams meet again Saturday in Charlottesville. Miami lost its third game in a row.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Trent Forrest’s putback with 3.8 seconds left capped a ferocious late charge and No. 7 Florida State beat Notre Dame 73-71 to move closer to an Atlantic Coast Conference title. Forrest’s basket gave the Seminoles just their second lead all night. Their other lead was 5-4 in the opening minutes. M.J. Walker scored 16 of his 21 points over the final 8:40 and FSU charged back from a 61-48 deficit. Forrest added 15 points and Devin Vassell scored 13 for the Seminoles. Prentiss Hubb led Notre Dame with 24 points, 19 in the first half.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — P.J. Horne scored 17 points to lead Virginia Tech to a 70-58 victory over Clemson. Horne connected on 6 of 10 from the floor for the Hokies (16-14, 7-12 Atlantic Coast Conference), who shot better than 50% for the first time in an ACC game this season and snapped a four-game losing streak. Tevin Mack scored 12 points for the Tigers (15-14, 9-10).
ATLANTA (AP) — Jose Alvarado scored 23 points and Michael Devoe added 13 as Georgia Tech shook off the school's decision to drop an appeal of an NCAA postseason ban with a 73-57 victory over Pittsburgh. The Yellow Jackets took some measure of satisfaction in earning their 10th ACC win, their most since 1995-96. Georgia Tech finished 6-4 in ACC home games and is holding hopes that it can earn at least a fifth-place tie when the regular season ends this weekend. Eric Hamilton finished with 12 points to pace Pittsburgh. The Panthers have dropped seven straight.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Kobi Thornton scored a career-high 27points on 12-of-16 shooting and Clemson used a 16-4 run to pull away for good and beat Miami 71-56 at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. Amari Robinson added 14 points for No. 14 seed Clemson, which snapped an 11-game skid. The Tigers play sixth-seeded Boston College in the second round. Thornton scored seven points during the decisive run that gave Clemson a 55-44 lead at the end of the third quarter. Miami trailed by double figures the rest of the way. Beatrice Mompremier led the No. 11 seed Hurricanes with 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Ivana Raca had 27 points and 13 rebounds, Alex Sharp scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half, and Wake Forest beat North Carolina 83-73 in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament. Sharp added 10 rebounds to move past Tracy Connor into third in program history with 907 career rebounds. The No. 13 seed Demon Deacons play fifth-seeded Virginia Tech in the second round. Gina Conti hit a 3-pointer and then Christina Morra sandwiched two baskets around a 3 by Sharp to give Wake Forest a 71-58 lead with 7:26 to play. Shayla Bennett scored 26 points for UNC.
