WHO IS “ALEX TREBEK” — It’s been one year since “Jeopardy!” Host Alex Trebek was diagnosed with stage four pancreatic cancer, which carries an 18% chance of survival in the first year.
On Wednesday, Alex celebrated that anniversary and hoped he would celebrate it again next year, although the two-year survival rate is only 7%.
In a touching video posted to the show’s Twitter, Alex gave fans an update on his disease.
“I’d be lying if I said the journey had been an easy one,” he says.
He opens up to viewers and says there were dark days where he wondered if it was even worth it to keep “fighting on,” noting at times the chemotherapy was killing him more than the cancer.
But Alex decided he needed to stay.

Anything else would’ve been a betrayal to his loving wife, fellow cancer patients and to his faith in God, he explained.
One year from now, Alex’s oncologist is sure they will be sitting in his office reflecting on the past year.
“If we take it just one day at a time, with a positive attitude, anything is possible,” Alex says in the video.
