KEARNS — A 5-year-old boy was badly injured when he was hit by a pickup truck Thursday evening, according to police.

The crash occurred near 5023 W. Longmore Drive, Unified police said. The boy was transported to a hospital where he remained in critical condition on Thursday night.

The child was playing in his front yard about 7:15 p.m. when he went into the road. A westbound truck then struck him, police said.

The driver initially stopped and then fled the scene, police said. The truck is described as light-colored with a mismatchcolored driver's side door.

“A young boy is fighting for his life tonight and we wish him the best,” said UPD Sgt. Melody Gray.

Police weren't sure if the driver was aware they hit a child, and they are asking the driver to reach out to UPD.
