ROBERT DE NIRO RECALLS HIS FIRST OSCAR WIN
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The first time Robert De Niro won an Oscar was a non-event and a very special event at the same time. De Niro first won a best supporting actor Oscar in 1975 for “The Godfather Part 2.” He couldn’t go to the Oscars because he was filming “1900” in northern Italy, and he figured he wouldn’t win anyway. He says he got a call at 6 a.m. telling him about his win. He says it was just a landline call and that was it, but on the other hand, it was “a good thing to wake up to in the morning.” De Niro is nominated this year as a producer for “The Irishman.”

JENNIFER LOPEZ AND SHAKIRA PREPARE FOR SUPER BOWL HALFTIME
MIAMI (AP) — Jennifer Lopez grew up in a football family, but they would not have dreamed that she’d be playing the Super Bowl halftime show someday. Lopez says her mom and dad are Jets fans. She says if her parents were given the choice between the Jets being in the Super Bowl this year and seeing their daughter represent women, Latinas and Americans, they would pick their daughter. Shakira says growing up in Columbia, no one would have thought she’d be at the Super Bowl either. She calls it a palpable example of anything is possible.

WEINSTEIN ACCUSER TESTIFIES ABOUT SEXUAL ADVANCES
NEW YORK (AP) — A key accuser in Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial testified Friday that he made a series of unwelcome advances, once trying to kiss her as she tried to fight him off, then telling her she couldn’t leave “until I do something for you.” She told jurors that “something” turned out to be performing oral sex on her. The 34-year-old woman has accused Weinstein of raping her in 2013, the most serious allegation in the case against the former Hollywood tycoon. Her testimony, which began with earlier alleged encounters, marked a pivotal moment for both sides in the courtroom. Prosecutors hope to hammer home charges at the heart of the case. Weinstein's lawyers planned to raise doubts about the accuser's credibility by seizing on her complicated history with the former film producer, including continued interactions and warm emails she sent him. Weinstein denies any sexual encounters that weren’t consensual.
ARETHA FRANKLIN’S NIECE QUITS AS EXECUTOR
PONTIAC, Mich. (AP) — A niece of Aretha Franklin said she's quitting as representative of the late singer's estate, citing a rift in the family since handwritten wills were discovered last year. Sabrina Owens said in a letter filed Thursday in a suburban Detroit court that, “Given my aunt's love of family and desire for privacy, this is not what she would have wanted for us, nor is it what I want.” The “Queen of Soul” died without a known will in August 2018. Owens, an administrator at the University of Michigan, said she became manager of the estate at the request of Franklin's four sons. Nine months later, Owens reported that three handwritten wills had been discovered in Franklin's home, including one under cushions in the living room. One document seems to indicate that Franklin wanted a son, Kecalf (kelf) Franklin, to serve as executor or representative. The estate reported assets of $17 million at the end of August, including master recordings and publishing rights worth an estimated $10.5 million. The Internal Revenue Service in October filed tax claims of more than $6 million.
BRITAIN’S HEALTH CHIEF SLAMS GWYNETH PALTROW’S LIFESTYLE BRAND
LONDON (AP) — The chief executive of Britain's National Health Service has criticized Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle brand Goop and her new Netflix series, warning it carries “considerable risks to health.” At an event in Oxford on Thursday, NHS chief Simon Stevens slammed Paltrow's brand for giving prominence to “quacks, charlatans and cranks” in promoting untested treatments like vampire facials and unusually scented candles. Stevens warned about the potential of misinformation to undermine public health. A spokeswoman for Goop said the company “takes efficacy and product claims very seriously" and noted it has a legal and compliance team that works with their science and research group to vet product claims. Paltrow's six-part series, “The goop lab with Gwyneth Paltrow,” was recently made available on Netflix in the U.K.
