LOGAN — A woman was flown to a hospital on Wednesday after her car struck the bed of a semitruck stopped in a turn lane, police say.

Police responded to the area of 2000 S. 1000 West about 1:40 p.m. in an attempt to find a possibly intoxicated woman driving a silver car southbound on U.S. 89/91 with an infant in the backseat, Logan police said in a news release.

A store clerk at Duke’s convenience store thought the woman was intoxicated and reported it to police, according to Logan Police Assistant Chief Jeff Simmons.

While police were responding, the silver car rear-ended a semitruck.

The infant in the car was transported to a hospital with injuries that weren’t considered life-threatening.

The woman was airlifted to a hospital with unknown injuries, police said. The driver of the semitruck was uninjured in the incident.

The silver car was heavily damaged and the semitruck had little damage.

The crash is under investigation.

Northbound U.S. 89/91 was closed for several hours but had reopened by 4:50 p.m.
