BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — Longtime NFL assistant Bill Musgrave has been hired to become the new offensive coordinator at Cal. Coach Justin Wilcox announced that Musgrave will replace Beau Baldwin next season for the Golden Bears. Baldwin left to become head coach at Cal Poly. Musgrave has more than two decades of coaching experience in college and the pros and has spent 13 seasons as an offensive coordinator. His only college coaching job came in 2001-02 when he was offensive coordinator at Virginia.
SEATTLE (AP) — Washington running back Salvon Ahmed is leaving school and entering the NFL draft following a junior season during which he was the Huskies' leading rusher. Ahmed rushed for 1,020 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. He served as a backup to Myles Gaskin for his first two seasons before moving into the starting role this year. Ahmed is the third Washington offensive player to declare early for the NFL draft, joining quarterback Jacob Eason and tight end Hunter Bryant.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Payton Pritchard scored 19 points and Will Richardson and Chris Duarte each had 14 to help No. 4 Oregon outlast Utah 69-64. Pritchard drew most of the defensive attention as usual so the Ducks ended up moving the ball to Shakur Juiston and Chandler Lawson. They each had a pair of layups to erase Utah’s late lead and clinch the game for Oregon (12-3, 1-1 Pac-12). Both Gach scored a career-high 24 points and Timmy Allen had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Utes (10-4, 1-1), who made a stunning comeback but didn’t have enough fuel to finish it off.
PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — CJ Elleby made a clutch corner 3 to tie the game at the end of regulation and Isaac Bonton scored eight points in overtime to help Washington State pull off a 79-71 come from behind victory over UCLA. Washington State (10-5, 1-1 Pac-12) clawed its way back against a big and physical team that has outrebounded each of its 15 opponents this year. Bonton finished with 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting and had five rebounds and five assists. Elleby had 15 points for the Cougars. UCLA (8-7, 1-1) dominated the game defensively during the first period, holding Washington State to just 28% shooting
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Stanford junior midfielder Catarina Macario and Clemson junior forward Robbie Robinson are the Hermann Trophy winners as the top college soccer players. Presented by the Missouri Athletic Club, the awards were determined by voting by NCAA Division I coaches. Macario is the fifth female player to repeat as the winner and the sixth two-time women’s winner overall. She led the nation and set a Stanford record with 32 goals last season. Robinson led the nation in points with 45 and tied for the lead in goals with 18.
