ROY — A man accidentally discharged a .00 buckshot shell from his shotgun while cleaning it on Friday afternoon and a stray pellet exited the home and struck a neighbor in the abdomen. The neighbor was outside taking his trash out when he was hit, police said.
The incident occurred near 2200 W. 4500 South, Roy City Police Sgt. Matt Gywnn confirmed. Pellets also hit a front door, police said.
The injured man was conscious, breathing and alert when he was transported to the hospital, Roy fire officials said.
Officials said the shotgun was a gift the man had received for Christmas.
