TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Quarterback Joe Burrow was hailed as the hero of LSU's 46-41 victory against Alabama, but the contributions Clyde Edwards-Helaire could not be understated. The 5-foot-8, 209-pound junior carried 20 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns, and led the team with nine catches for 77 yards and another score. Time and again, the former three-star recruit made plays that stemmed the Tide's attempt at a comeback.

UNDATED (AP) — LSU is an overwhelming No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll after beating Alabama in a 1-2 matchup, and Minnesota moved into the top 10 for the first time in 57 years. After two weeks of historically close voting at the top of poll, LSU received 54 first-place votes in the AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank. Ohio State was No. 2, Clemson was third and Alabama fell to No. 4.

UNDATED (AP) — Arkansas has fired football coach Chad Morris after 22 games and no Southeastern Conference victories. Athletic director Hunter Yurachek announced the move in a statement, saying it was clear that the program had not made the progress necessary to compete and win, especially in the SEC.

UNDATED (AP) — The LSU-Alabama game drew 16.636 million viewers for CBS, making it the most-watched college football game of the season. CBS said LSU's 46-41 victory against Alabama, a matchup of the AP To 25's Nos. 1 and 2 teams, scored a 9.7 rating, the highest for any regular-season college football game on any network in eight years.

UNDATED (AP) — AJ Dillon has been Boston College's workhorse for three years. He outdid himself against Florida State. The junior running back carried a career-high 40 times in the Eagles' loss for the most by a Football Bowl Subdivision player since Boise State's Alexander Mattison ran the same number of times against Fresno State last December. Army tied Air Force for most team rushing attempts when it ran 78 times for a national season-high 498 yards against Massachusetts.

NEW YORK (AP) — It didn't count in the standings, but the most shocking game of the opening week of women's basketball was No. 1 Oregon stunning the U.S. women's national team. The Americans played a four-game college tour that had them face Stanford, Oregon State, Texas A&M and the Ducks over a seven-day stretch.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Devin Vassell scored 13 points, M.J. Walker added 12 and Florida State upset No. 6 Florida 63-51. The Seminoles extended their series winning streak to six. FSU avoided its first 0-2 start since 2000 thanks to suffocating defense that forced the rival Gators into 16 turnovers and a woeful shooting performance.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Chennedy Carter scored 25 points and No. 6 Texas A&M defeated Duke 79-58. The Aggies outrebounded the Blue Devils 47-26, despite Duke holding a nearly three-inch average height advantage over Texas A&M.
