Tigers win as Wiseman plays
UNDATED (AP) _ The 14th-ranked Memphis Tigers had a surprise for their fans as they took on Illinois-Chicago at home on Friday.
Blue chip freshman center James Wiseman was on the court after getting a temporary restraining order to play while he fights an NCAA ruling that he's ineligible to play for coach Penny Hardaway and the Tigers.
Memphis says Wiseman initially was declared eligible by the NCAA in May, but an investigation led to information that Hardaway gave Wiseman’s family $11,500. The money was for moving expenses to help Wiseman's family relocate from Nashville to Memphis in the summer of 2017, while Hardaway was coach of East High School.
Wiseman was the No. 1 recruit nationally and is projected as the top pick overall in the 2020 NBA draft.
The seven-foot Wiseman had 17 points and nine rebounds in the Tigers’ 92-46 thrashing of the Flames. Fellow freshman Boogie Ellis led Memphis with 22 points and was 6 of 9 from 3-point range to help the 2-0 Tigers shoot 59% for the game.

_ No. 2 Kentucky had no trouble with a state rival as Nick Richards had 21 points and 10 rebounds in a 91-49 romp over Eastern Kentucky. Immanuel Quickley added 16 points for the Wildcats, who opened the game on a 14-0 run after knocking off Michigan State in their season opener on Tuesday.
_ Third-ranked Kansas bounced back from Tuesday’s loss to Duke as Devon Dotson furnished 22 points and six assists in the Jayhawks’ 74-62 win over UNC Greensboro. Udoka Azubuike (oo-DOH’-kah az-oo-BOO’-kay) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Kansas, which pulled away while showing 47% from beyond the arc in the second half.
_ Tre Jones contributed 15 points and eight assists in fourth-ranked Duke’s 89-55 pounding of Colorado State. Cassius Stanley was among three Blue Devils freshman to score in double-figures, finishing with 19 points.
_ Ninth-ranked North Carolina beat UNC Wilmington, 78-62 behind 20 points and 10 boards from freshman star Cole Anthony. Graduate transfer Justin Pierce had 18 points and 12 rebounds to offset a bad shooting night for Anthony, who was 7-for-24 after scoring 34 points in his college debut.
_ Nahziah Carter hit four of his six 3-point attempts while scoring a career-high 23 points in Washington’s 67-64 decision over No. 16 Baylor. Jaden McDaniels had 18 points and seven rebounds to help the Huskies win their season opener.
_ Justin Bean had 18 points and nine rebounds to help No. 17 Utah State humble rival Weber State, 89-34. Sam Merrill added 14 points, six rebounds, and six assists, while Abel Porter produced his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists in the rout.
_ Tyrique Jones and Naji Marshall each scored 20 points as No. 19 Xavier toppled Siena, 81-63. The Musketeers took control with a 14-1 spurt in the first half and led by as many as 27.
_ No. 22 LSU escaped with an 88-79 win against Bowling Green as Ja'vonte Smart and Emmitt Williams scored 21 points apiece.
_ Isaac Okoro dropped in 17 points and Danjel Purifoy had 14 as No. 24 Auburn eased past Davidson, 76-66 in the opener of the Veterans Classic at Annapolis.
_ Marcus Evans had a team-high 13 points and Mike'L Simms hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final 2:07 as No. 25 VCU pulled out a 59-56 triumph over North Texas.

Kings hold off Young, Hawks
UNDATED (AP) _ The Sacramento Kings rode a wave of 3-point accuracy to victory in Atlanta.
Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 20 points and hit two of his 3-pointers in a key fourth-quarter flurry as the Kings dumped the Hawks, 121-109. Buddy Hield (heeld) had a team-high 22 points and De'Aaron Fox had 17 for the Kings, who were a deadly 18-for-31 from beyond the arc.
Trae Young helped the Hawks trim a 21-point, first-half deficit to 94-93 before Sacramento answered with a string of five 3-pointers, including two by Bogdanovic. Young scored 16 of his 30 points in the third quarter.

_ The Nuggets trailed by 19 heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the 76ers 35-13 the rest of the way to earn a 100-97 win over Philadelphia. Nikola Jokic (nee-KOH’-lah YOH’-kihch) finished with 26 points and 10 rebounds, Jamal Murray delivered 22 points and 11 assists, while Will Barton added 20 to the comeback victory. Jokic drained an off-balanced 20-footer with 1.2 seconds remaining to put the Nuggets in front.
_ The Lakers picked up a 95-80 win over the Heat as Anthony Davis had 26 points and nine rebounds. LeBron James scored 12 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter for Los Angeles, which has won seven in a row since a season-opening loss to the Clippers.
_ Bojan Bogdanovic capped his 33-point performance by nailing a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Jazz a 103-100 thriller over the Bucks. Bogdanovic made five 3-pointers and all 10 free throws, while Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley each scored 20 points.
_ Pascal Siakam (see-A’-kam) matched his career high with 44 points and grabbed 20 rebounds as the Raptors coasted to a 122-104 win at New Orleans. Toronto used a 45-point second quarter to take control of the game and improved to 6-2.
_ Spencer Dinwiddie shot 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and poured in 34 points off the bench as the Nets dumped the Trail Blazers, 119-115 in Portland. Kyrie Irving nailed four 3-pointers and scored 32 points for Brooklyn, which evened its record at 4-4. The Blazers lost despite Damian Lillard’s career-best and NBA season-high 60 points.
_ Marcus Morris scored a season-high 29 points and the Knicks put together a late 9-0 run to beat the Mavericks, 106-92. Former Knick Kristaps Porzingis (KRIHS’-tahps pohr-ZIHN’-gihs) scored 28 points and Luka Doncic (DAHN’-chihch) added a career-high 38 in already his fourth triple-double of the season.
_ The Timberwolves overcame D'Angelo Russell's career-high 52 points to beat the Warriors, 125-119 in overtime. Andrew Wiggins scored 40 points for Minnesota, including the tying basket with 5.6 seconds left in regulation.
_ T.J. McConnell, Domantas Sabonis (dah-MAHN’-tahs sah-BOH’-nihs) and T.J. Warren scored 17 points apiece in the Pacers’ fifth win in six games, 112-106 against the Pistons. Indiana stayed hot since an 0-3 start by turning a 15-point, first-quarter deficit into a 17-point lead by the third period.
_ Cleveland’s three-game skid is over after seven Cavaliers scored at least 10 points in a 113-100 downing of the Wizards. Tristan Thompson had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Cavs, while Kevin Love chipped in 16 points and 12 boards.
_ Nikola Vucevic had 23 points and 16 rebounds as the Magic clobbered the Grizzlies, 118-86 to end a four-game skid. Jonathan Isaac added 22 points and eight rebounds for Orlando, which outscored Memphis 34-8 in the fourth quarter.

Chiefs' Mahomes to start against Titans, barring setbacks
UNDATED (AP) _ The NFL’s reigning MVP will be back on the field this weekend.
Patrick Mahomes (mah-HOHMZ') will start for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, just over two weeks after the quarterback's season was jeopardized by a dislocated kneecap.
Mahomes never missed a practice after hurting his knee Oct. 17 against Denver. It turned out there was no structural damage, and it became a waiting game to see when Mahomes would take the field.
The Chiefs went 1-1 with Matt Moore under center.
In other NFL news:
_ Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan appears set to play against the Saints on Sunday after being taken off Atlanta’s injury report. Ryan had only limited participation in Friday's practice, but that was enough for coach Dan Quinn to say the veteran quarterback was ready for return.
_ The Vikings have ruled wide receiver Adam Thielen (THEE’-lihn) out for their game at Dallas. The two-time Pro Bowl pick was hurt during a touchdown reception on Oct. 20 at Detroit and held out the next week against Washington, the first absence of his six-year NFL career.
_ Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is set to return Sunday against Minnesota after the second-year player missed the first game of his career with a neck injury. Vander Esch sustained the injury against Philadelphia before the open week and missed the first game back against the Giants on Monday.
_ Dolphins safety Reshad Jones will miss his fourth game in a row Sunday at Indianapolis because of a chest injury. Jones, the Dolphins' highest-paid player, has played in only three games this year. Also ruled out for the Colts game was cornerback Ken Webster because of an ankle injury.
_ Running back Le'Veon (LAY'-vee-ohn) Bell and tight end Chris Herndon are among several Jets questionable to play Sunday against the Giants. Bell is dealing with knee and ankle ailments, and Herndon has missed the last four games due to a hamstring injury.
_ The Ravens have signed inside linebacker L.J. Fort to a two-year extension through 2021. Fort was signed to Baltimore's 53-man roster in late September after being released by the Eagles. He has 14 tackles and a sack in his four games for Baltimore.

Ohio State sits Young due to NCAA matter
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) _ Ohio State has announced that star defensive end Chase Young won’t play for the third-ranked Buckeyes Saturday against Maryland.
The decision comes amid concerns he violated NCAA rules by taking a loan last year from someone he describes as a "family friend." The school did not elaborate or give a timetable of how long he might be out, only to say Young is sidelined because of a "possible NCAA issue from last year" the athletic department is "looking into."
The junior leads the nation with 13 ½ sacks and has become a contender in the Heisman Trophy race.

Lightning top Sabres 3-2 in Sweden
UNDATED (AP) _ The Tampa Bay Lightning have won the first of their back-to-back games against the Buffalo Sabres in Stockholm.
Nikita Kucherov (KOO’-cheh-rahv) scored early in the first period and Andrei Vasilevskiy (va-sih-LEHV’-skee) turned back 20 shots as the Bolts held off the Sabres, 3-2. Alex Killorn (kih-LOHRN’) and Yanni Gourde (YAH’-nee gohrd) also scored in front of a sellout crowd in the Swedish capital.
The Sabres dropped their fourth in a row despite Sam Reinhart’s two goals.
Meanwhile, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says the league plans to return to Europe for games in the next two years, beginning with a 2020-21 season opener between the Bruins and Predators in Prague. The Avalanche and Blue Jackets will play two games in Helsinki later next season.

_ Robby Fabbri (FAB’-ree) scored twice in his Red Wings debut to lead a 4-2 win over the Bruins. Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha also scored for Detroit, and Tyler Bertuzzi had two assists as Detroit ended a four-game skid and won for only the second time in their last 14 games.
_ Connor Hellebuyck (HEH’-leh-buhk) beat the Canucks for the ninth straight time by handling 31 shots in the Jets’ 4-1 home win. Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist for Winnipeg, which is 3-0-1 in its last four games.
_ Leon Draisaitl (DRY’-sy-tul) scored his 14th goal and Mikko Koskinen (MEE’-koh KAHS’-kih-nehn) stopped 26 shots in the Oilers’ 4-0 shutout of the Devils. James Neal added his 12th goal to support Koskinen’s fifth career shutout.
PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS-SCHWAB CUP
Maggert in control
PHOENIX (AP) _ Jeff Maggert shot a 6-under 65 to increase his lead to four strokes through two rounds of the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
Maggert birdied three of the first four holes in a front-nine 31. He added a birdie on 17 to complete his bogey-free round in perfect conditions at Phoenix Country Club.
Maggert is 14 under through 36 holes.
Bernhard Langer is second in a bid for his record sixth PGA Tour Champions season points title.
LPGA JAPAN CLASSIC
Suzuki takes 3-stroke lead at LPGA's Japan Classic
SHIGA, Japan (AP) — Local favorite Ai Suzuki shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the LPGA Japan Classic on Saturday.
Suzuki had seven birdies at the par-72 Seta Golf Course to finish her two rounds at 12-under 132. Gaby Lopez shot 67 and was in second place in the final event of the LPGA Tour's Asia Swing.
Australian Hannah Green, who held a share of the lead with Suzuki after the opening round on Friday, shot a 69 and was tied for third with Hyo Joo Kim (68).
