LOGAN — A man wanted in Minnesota for parole violation on a felony criminal sexual conduct conviction was arrested Tuesday in Logan after a police chase and was criminally charged Thursday with three felonies and one misdemeanor.
Timothy Ray Mitchell, 43, was charged in 1st District Court Thursday with possession or use of a firearm by a restricted person and receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle, both second-degree felonies.
A Logan police sergeant attempted to pull Mitchell over Tuesday because his motorcycle didn't have a license plate, according to a probable cause statement. Mitchell evaded the traffic stop and the sergeant pursued him, according to police.
After Mitchell attempted to lose officers on the chase by "performing several traffic offenses," the statement reads, he crashed his bike in the middle of a field around 1100 S. 1000 West.
Mitchell then ran on foot but gave up when officers closed in, according to police.
Logan Police Capt. Tyson Budge said police discovered Mitchell had an active warrant from Minnesota for violating felony parole. According to Minnesota court documents, Mitchell was convicted of criminal sexual conduct, a second-degree felony, in 2015.
Mitchell's motorcycle was reported stolen out of Idaho and police also found a .22 caliber rifle in Mitchell's possession. Because of prior felony convictions, Mitchell is a restricted person, police said.
Mitchell was also charged with failure to respond to officer's signal to stop, a third-degree felony; and reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor.
According to court documents, Mitchell's next court appearance is scheduled for June 25.
