SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles selected Oregon State switch-hitting catcher Adley Rutschman with the No. 1 pick in the Major League Baseball draft. The announcement at MLB Network studios marked the second time the Orioles led off the draft. They took LSU pitcher Ben McDonald in 1989.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Rachel Garcia hit a two-run homer and gave up one run in five innings, and UCLA routed Oklahoma 16-3 to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three championship series. Garcia, who threw 179 pitches on Sunday to earn the win against Washington, threw 61 more against Oklahoma q. And a day after hitting a dramatic walk-off homer, she cranked one of UCLA's four home runs against Oklahoma. Kinsley Washington went 4 for 4 and scored three times for UCLA.

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Christian Robinson had two hits and drove in four runs to help Stanford rally to beat Fresno State 9-7 in the championship game of the Stanford Regional. Maverick Handley hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs as the top-seeded Cardinal (45-12) won its first regional in five years

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ryan Kreidler had three hits, Chase Strumpf hit a three-run homer and UCLA advanced to the NCAA Baseball Tournament Super Regional with a 6-3 victory over Loyola Marymount in the Los Angeles regional. This is the fifth time a national top seed has lost one of its first two games since the current format started in 1999.

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) — Washington State has hired Brian Green as its new baseball coach. Green comes to Pullman after five seasons as coach at New Mexico State, where he led the Aggies to the 2019 Western Athletic Conference regular-season championship and an NCAA Regional appearance in 2018. Green replaces Marty Lees, who was fired after four disappointing seasons at Washington State.

UNDATED (AP) — Michigan's hiring of Juwan Howard continues a recent trend of college programs hiring former NBA players. Howard had no previous college coaching experience before being named John Beilein's replacement. Vanderbilt hired Jerry Stackhouse in April. Memphis made a surprise move by hiring Penny Hardaway two years ago. Patrick Ewing is entering his third season at his alma mater, Georgetown.

UNDATED (AP) — Josh Heupel, who was the Heisman Trophy runner-up for Oklahoma in 2000, and former North Carolina pass-rushing star Julius Peppers are among 12 players making their first appearance of the College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Other first-time candidates include C.J. Spiller of Clemson, Chris Samuels of Alabama and James Laurinaitis of Ohio State. The 2020 class will be announced in January.
