SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who spoke out against his infamous father who led a polygamous sect has died. Rachel Jeffs said Tuesday her brother Roy Jeffs was abused sexually and physiologically by their father Warren Jeffs. She says Roy Jeffs died by suicide May 29. He was 26. Rachel Jeffs says he was determined to tell his story to help other loved ones break away from the group controlled by their father, and hoped the family could reunite.

PROVO, Utah (AP) — A puppy is recovering after getting trapped in a garbage truck with her owner. Police said Tuesday officers rescued the puppy and her 43-year-old owner earlier that morning after they got caught by the truck's compactor mechanism. The unidentified man and puppy were sleeping in a dumpster when the truck collected and compacted the bin's contents with them still inside. The driver stopped the machine after hearing the man call for help. He sustained minor injuries. The puppy was unharmed.

LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A 5-year-old girl who police say was taken from her home and killed by her uncle is expected to be laid to rest Tuesday afternoon. Family and friends are preparing for Elizabeth "Lizzy" Shelley's funeral after she disappeared May 25 and a five-day search ended when her body was found less than a block from her home. Prosecutors say her 21-year-old uncle killed her. A service will be held at Nyman Funeral Home in Logan, followed by a procession to the cemetery.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz says he will not run for Utah governor next year. The former Republican congressman made the announcement Monday, noting he gave "serious consideration" to launching a 2020 campaign. Chaffetz became a contributor for Fox News after leaving the U.S. House in 2017.
