ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — Police say a brother and sister who shared an apartment in southern Utah have been found dead along with a pet dog in an apparent murder-suicide.
The Spectrum newspaper reported Wednesday the bodies of 67-year-old Shandra Lee Brownstein and 68-year-old Stanley Thomas McCausland were found in their St. George apartment on May 9. Brownstein's dog was also found dead.
St. George police officer Tiffany Atkin said authorities believe the siblings had been dead for about a week before they were found.
Court documents show employees of the property management company were conducting a welfare check on the apartment when they found Brownstein and McCausland dead. Records indicate the renters were at risk of being evicted for not paying rent.
