RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes are losing defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk (van-REEMZ'-dyk) for the rest of the playoffs. General manager Don Waddell says the 27-year-old underwent surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to miss four to six months. He was hurt last Sunday in Game 2 of Carolina's second-round sweep of the New York Islanders.

UNDATED (AP) — The Bruins and Blue Jackets meet in Boston tonight for Game 5 of their second-round series that is tied 2-2. The same situation faces the Sharks and the Avalanche when they meet tonight in San Jose.

HOUSTON (AP) — The Houston Rockets return home tonight for Game 3 of their series against Golden State down two games to one. The Rockets are hoping for help from James Harden, who's recovering from injuries to both of his eyes. Last year's MVP was hurt fighting for a rebound in Game 2.

CHICAGO (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have activated veteran reliever Luke Gregerson from the 10-day injured list after he missed the first five weeks because of a right shoulder impingement. The 34-year-old right-hander hasn't pitched in a major league game since last July. He missed the start of last season because of a hamstring injury and struggled through 17 appearances, posting a 7.11 ERA, before being shut down because of the shoulder problem.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Maximum Security is the 9-2 favorite in early wagering for the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The Florida Derby winner is 4-0 in his brief career. The colt faces three of Bob Baffert's top horses on what could be a rainy first leg of the Triple Crown. A sixth victory would tie Baffert for most wins by a trainer. Post time is 6:46 p.m. Eastern time.
