ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say they have arrested and charged four women with running a prostitution network in California, Nevada and Utah that netted tens of thousands of dollars a month. Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said Wednesday the women had a website that appeared to be a legitimate service but was not. Authorities say the four women are charged with pimping and pandering. It was not immediately known if the women had lawyers.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Recent figures suggest that the Utah Highway Patrol is seeing early success under a new state law that dropped the blood alcohol limit from .08% to .05%, the lowest threshold in the nation. The Deseret News reports that Utah troopers say there were 134 alcohol-related crashes in January resulting in 59 injuries and one death, the lowest number in at least four years. There were 150 alcohol-related crashes in January last year resulting in 84 injuries and two deaths.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A former Utah city mayor has been named the executive director of America's Freedom Festival at Provo. The Daily Herald reports that former Orem Mayor Jim Evans will take over the private, nonprofit foundation in northern Utah that organizes educational programs and annual community events.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah has named a venomous lizard with black and yellow bead-like scales as its state reptile. Republican Gov. Gary Herbert signed a bill into a law last week that adds the Gila monster to the list of state symbols. Republican state Rep. Lowry Snow had sponsored the bill after students at Lava Ridge Intermediate School in Santa Clara had lobbied the lawmaker. The lizards can be found in southwest Utah.
