UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA Tournament has the top three seeds in each round in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2009. There are 14 top-four seeds in the Sweet 16. There's even one fan among all online games who entered a perfect bracket through the first 48 games, an unheard of run.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Ehab Amin sparked Oregon out of a long drought to start the second half and the Ducks became the lone double-digit seed to advance to the Sweet 16 by beating UC Irvine 73-54 on Sunday night. Payton Pritchard led 12th-seeded Oregon with 18 points, Louis King added 16 and Amin had 12 points and three steals. The Ducks have won 10 straight after a lackluster start to the season and will play top-seeded Virginia in the South Regional semifinal on Thursday.
BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) — California has fired basketball coach Wyking Jones after winning just eight games in each of his first two seasons. Athletic director Jim Knowlton announced the decision days after reports emerged that Jones had been told he would return to Cal for a third season. Knowlton thanked Jones for his dedication to the program and called the firing a difficult decision.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Luke Maye and Nassir Little each scored 20 points and top-seeded North Carolina breezed into the Sweet 16, beating Washington 81-59. The Tar Heels never trailed and moved on to face fifth-seeded Auburn on Friday in a Midwest Regional semifinal. Last year, one season removed from its national championship, North Carolina was eliminated in the second round in a rout by Texas A&M. The Tar Heels were not going to let it happen again.
NEW YORK (AP) — Eight invitations to the Sweet 16 have been delivered and the other eight will be decided Monday night. UConn's back in the regional semifinals for the 26th consecutive year, and the Pac-12 has yet to lose in the postseason, improving to 8-0 after wins by Arizona State and Oregon.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Sabrina Ionescu had 29 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds for her 18th career triple double and second-seeded Oregon defeated No. 10 Indiana 91-68 to advance to the Sweet 16 at the NCAA Tournament. Ionescu is the NCAA's career triple-double leader among men and women.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — Robbi Ryan's free throws with 5.0 seconds left off a Miami turnover put Arizona State ahead to stay, and the fifth-seeded Sun Devils ousted fourth-seeded Miami 57-55 in a second-round Portland Region game. Arizona State (22-10) was down by as many as eight in the second half, and survived a game where it shot 35 percent.
STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Sign her up: Stanford senior Shannon Coffee does sign language during the national anthem before games for the second-seeded Cardinal. The senior will sign the Star-Spangled Banner before her final home game when Stanford plays BYU in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Monday night
