UNDATED (AP) — The point guard for Mike Krzyzewski's first Final Four team now is trying to lead Central Florida to its first Sweet 16 berth. Standing in Johnny Dawkins' way is his former coach and boss. Dawkins will match up with Krzyzewski on Sunday as No. 9 seed UCF attempts to upset No. 1 seed Duke in an East Region matchup.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Pac-12 and Atlantic Coast Conference showed conference supremacy in the opening round of the women's NCAA Tournament. The two power conferences combined to go 13-1 in the first two days.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — As the clock wound down on Florida State's 90-62 victory against 12th-seeded Murray State in the NCAA Tournament, Ja Morant wondered what more he could have done for his team and what could have been. Two days after Morant became the talk of the tournament with a triple-double that had NBA stars Steph Curry and Luka Doncic marveling at the sure-fire lottery pick, his breakout season ended with far less fanfare.
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Two days after Florida State senior Phil Cofer lost his father to a lengthy illness, the Seminoles honored their friend and his late dad, Mike Cofer, with an inspiring performance in the NCAA Tournament. Terance Mann had 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Mfiondu Kabengele scored 22 points and fourth-seeded Florida State ran Ja Morant and 12th-seeded Murray State out of the tournament, 90-62 to advance to the West regional semifinal.
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Star point guard Justin Robinson provided a big boost to Virginia Tech when he returned after missing 12 games with a foot injury. He played 27 minutes in a first-round NCAA Tournament win over Saint Louis and hopes to build on that performance when the fourth-seeded Hokies face No. 12 seed Liberty in the second round of the East Region
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — The focus of the Duke-UCF NCAA Tournament second round game is sure to be at the rim where dynamic Blue Devils freshman Zion Williamson will go against the tallest player in college basketball in UCF's 7-foot-6 center Tacko Fall. Williamson had 25 points in Duke's first-round win, much of it coming right at the rim. That's where Fall excels, too, both in shooting and blocked shots. He had 13 points, 18 boards and five blocks in UCF's win over VCU.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Duke likely won't be at full strength for a second consecutive NCAA Tournament game as reserve forward Jack White will probably miss the Blue Devils' second-round game Sunday because of a hamstring injury. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said White had a decent workout Saturday and will test himself out during warm ups before a final decision is made. Krzyzewski said center Marques Bolden came out of Friday's win over North Dakota State in good shape in his first game back from a knee sprain.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Top-seeded North Carolina wants to avoid another early exit from the NCAA Tournament. Last season, a year removed from a national championship, the Tar Heels couldn't make it out of the opening weekend. North Carolina is just 3-3 in second-round games in the last six seasons. They'll try to earn a trip to the Sweet 16 when they face ninth-seeded Washington on Sunday.
