WASHINGTON (AP) — The next step for the government shutdown is impossible to predict. A Republican lawmaker advising President Donald Trump says he is encouraging Trump to reopen the government for several weeks to continue negotiating with Democrats over funding for a U.S.-Mexico border wall. Sen. Lindsey Graham says that should be considered before the more drastic step of declaring a national emergency. Graham tells "Fox News Sunday" that Trump still wants a deal on the wall before reopening the government.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A winter storm sweeping in from the Midwest has punished the mid-Atlantic region for a second day Sunday, knocking out power to thousands with a mix of snow, sleet and ice that cancelled flights, toppled trees and caused hundreds of road accidents. More than 200,000 people in Virginia and North Carolina were without power Sunday and airports in the region also were hampered by the storm.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Trump administration rules allowing more employers to opt out of providing women with no-cost birth control will take effect in most parts of the U.S. A federal judge blocked the rules from being implemented in 13 states and Washington, D.C., while a lawsuit against them moves forward.
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — An Indonesian official says the cockpit voice recorder of a Lion Air jet that crashed into the Java Sea in October has been found. A deputy maritime minister told reporters that the National Transportation Safety Committee had informed the ministry about the discovery.
DAVIS, Calif. (AP) — Officials say the man who shot and killed a rookie California police officer left a letter on the bed in the home where he lived claiming police bombarded him with ultrasonic waves. Police in the college town of Davis near Sacramento on Saturday made public the letter they said was written by Kevin Douglas Limbaugh. He killed himself Thursday after fatally shooting Officer Natalie Corona. Also recovered as evidence from the man's home were two unregistered guns.
