SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — It's Clemson vs. Alabama tonight in the College Football Championship at Santa Clara, California. Alabama already has five national championships in the past nine seasons, and winning another crown against Clemson would lift the Crimson Tide even further above other college football dynasties and into the conversation about the best runs in all of college sports.

UNDATED (AP) — Texas quarterback Vince Young and Notre Dame speedster Raghib Ismail have been selected for induction into the College Football Hall of Fame, along with 11 other players and two coaches. Young was the Heisman Trophy runner-up and led the Longhorns to the 2005 national championship with a memorable performance in the Rose Bowl against Southern California. Ismail, better known as Rocket, was an electric receiver and kick returner for the Fighting Irish and the Heisman runner-up in 1990.

CHICAGO (AP) — Nick Foles hit Golden Tate with a 2-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 56 seconds remaining against the NFL's stingiest defense, lifting the Philadelphia Eagles over the Chicago Bears 16-15 in the final wild-card game Sunday. The defending champion Eagles (10-7) squeezed into the playoffs by beating Washington and having the Bears (12-5) help them by knocking off Minnesota in the season finale. Philly plays at New Orleans (13-3) next Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Timberwolves fired coach Tom Thibodeau halfway into his third year with the team, a season that began with turmoil surrounding the eventual trade of All-Star Jimmy Butler. Thibodeau was dismissed about an hour after a 108-86 victory over the LeBron James-less Los Angeles Lakers. Scott Layden will remain the general manager overseeing basketball operations and assistant coach Ryan Saunders will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Goodyear Blimp is flying into rarefied air. As a nod to its influence and legacy to the game, the iconic airship is being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as an honorary member — the first non-player or coach to be inducted. The latest class of 13 players and two coaches are set to be announced later today.
