CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — University of Miami athletic director Blake James says it's good to have a basketball corruption trial in the past, with no indication of wrongdoing by the Hurricanes' program. A New York jury last week found three men guilty of channeling secret payment to families of recruits to influence their choices of schools, apparel companies and agents. James says he remains confident Hurricanes coach Jim Larranaga and his staff followed NCAA guidelines.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence has quickly become a pivotal cog in the second-ranked Tigers' latest championship run. Lawrence has thrown for 300 yards in his past two games, leading Clemson to wins against formerly undefeated North Carolina State and at rival Florida State. Lawrence believes the offense has only scratched the surface of what it can achieve this year.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — It will be strength vs. strength when No. 23 Virginia faces Pittsburgh this weekend. The Panthers are coming off a 484-yard rushing performance, while the Cavaliers have held their last two opponents below 70 rushing yards. The game is also a critical Coastal Division matchup.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) — The Miami Hurricanes will redshirt 7-foot center Rodney Miller. He won raves for his offseason improvement but is still third on the depth chart. Miller was unlikely to see much playing time this season. He's a backup to Dewan Hernandez and Ebuka Izundu,
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma receiver Lee Morris and Oklahoma State quarterback Taylor Cornelius are among the top players in the nation who started their careers as walk-ons. Many of the nation's top-tier programs have key players who started their college careers without scholarships.
NEW YORK (AP) — NCAA triple-double record holder Sabrina Ionescu headlines The Associated Press women's basketball preseason All-America team. The Oregon junior has 10 triple doubles in her career and received 29 votes from the 31-member national media panel that selects the AP Top 25 each week. She is joined on the team by Louisville's Asia Durr, UConn's Katie Lou Samuelson, Notre Dame's Arike Ogunbowale and Baylor's Kalani Brown.
