DRAPER — The driver of a Chevy pickup truck is dead following a crash in the parking lot of a motel late Friday night.

The crash happened shortly after 11:10 p.m. at the Ramada Inn, 12650 S. Minuteman Drive. Draper Police Sgt. Clint Fackrell said the truck hit several parked cars and a fence.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, Fackrell said. No one else was injured.

Fackrell said prior to the crash, a Draper police officer had attempted to stop the truck in the area of 13200 South and Minuteman Drive. But when the truck sped away northbound on Minuteman Drive, the officer chose not to chase after it.

The crash at the Ramada Inn was found a short time later.

Police are investigating to find out why the driver fled and what may have caused him to crash, Fackrell said.

As of Saturday morning, police had not released the identity of the driver.
