PROVO, Utah (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service has lifted several closures in northern Utah more than a month ago after wildfires swept through the area.
The Daily Herald in Provo reported Thursday that roads and trails north of U.S. Highway 6 are open and areas such as Diamond Fork in Spanish Fork Canyon.
Forest officials say the timing also coincides with the start of Utah's hunting season this weekend. Hunters will be able to access the Mount Nebo Unit.
Some areas remain closed because of falling trees and the potential for debris flow.
The Pole Creek and Bald Mountain fires burned more than 120,000 acres combined last month. They prompted the evacuation of hundreds of people in the cities of Woodland Hills and Elk Ridge and smaller communities south of Provo.
