CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Brad Brownell says he is disappointed that former player Jaron Blossomgame was implicated in the ongoing case of corruption in major college basketball. Documents presented during a trial in New York shows that Blossomgame accepted $350. Brownell says he did not know of the arrangement and told his former forward how disappointed he was that it occurred. Brownell says he does not know aspiring agent Christian Dawkins, who is a defendant in the trial.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Clemson coach Brad Brownell has four seniors back from the Tigers' NCAA Tournament run to the round of 16 last year. Brownell also got a new six-year contract tying him to the men's basketball program through 2024. But Brownell is certain there will be no complacency after last year's accomplishments and that his veteran team is looking for bigger things this season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Danny Manning is looking for another turnaround at Wake Forest. He's heading into his fifth season with the men's basketball program at the school, and the former Kansas star's reign has been marked by rampant roster turnover and only a single NCAA Tournament appearance that ended in a play-in game. More seriously, one of his assistants is in legal peril after he was accused by police of punching a New York City tourist who later died.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh senior linebacker Quintin Wirginis will miss the rest of the season after injuring his knee during practice. Coach Pat Narduzzi said Wirginis injured the knee during a non-contact drill. The loss is significant for the Panthers (3-3), who travel to No. 5 Notre Dame this weekend. Wirginis leads the Panthers in tackles (41), tackles for loss (7.0) and sacks (3) and is tied for the lead in forced fumbles (2).
