WINNING TITLES — Winning is always fun.
But winning in walk-off fashion? That’s a little extra special.
Two local athletes got to do just that this week, from the Class 6A state golf championship to the Pac-12 soccer fields.

Walk-off winner
What’s the best way to end your high school career? How about with a game-winner on your final touch.
That’s what Lone Peak’s Zach Jones did in the final round of the Class 6A state golf tournament last Thursday.
Jones had a one-shot lead over BYU commit Cole Ponich of Davis going into the final hole of the tournament at TalonsCove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs. With the win on the line, the senior stepped up to the edge of the green and calmly sank a birdie to help the Knights sweep the individual and team titles.

Lone Peak finished just eight strokes ahead of Davis (597) in the team standings, followed by Weber (607), American Fork (620) and Pleasant Grove (629).
Game-winning goal
Holly Daugirda has scored a lot of goals in her three seasons with the Utah women’s soccer team.
Few were bigger than Sunday afternoon at Ute Field, though.
The junior outside back from Skyline High scored her first goal of the season Sunday in overtime to help the Utes stun No. 7 Washington State, 1-0.
After a scoreless regulation, Daugirdo squared a cross from former Davis High star Ireland Dunn in the ninth minute of overtime to lift the Utes (6-6-1, 3-2 Pac 12) to their third-straight victory.

Circle button
There’s not a lot that Orem High football star Puka Nacua can’t do.
But he keeps impressing. Every. Single. Week.
The USC commit scored four touchdowns Friday night as the Tigers blanked Uintah, 75-0 in Region 10 play. One of the four probably shouldn’t happen, but Nacua took a crossing route down the far sideline, used a spin move to juke three Ute defenders, and cruised into the end zone for a score that put Orem up, 42-0 in the rout.

Nacua earned KSL’s weekly Primetime Performer with the move, but his highlights aren’t relegated only to primetime.
