SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Jazz will be celebrating its 40th season as a franchise by donning a new but old jersey combination.
Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio released an early look at a purple throwback jersey Wednesday on Twitter. The Jazz then made it official Thursday, calling it the Nike Classic Edition jersey. The purple jersey will feature the original Jazz logo in gold and white on the front of the jersey and the original J-Note logo on the shorts.
“These classic jerseys are an instant visual connection to our rich and storied past in the state of Utah,” Bart Sharp, senior vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “Our 40th season celebration is a natural time to reflect on the past and all we have shared together with the fans of Utah, but it’s also an opportunity to look ahead to what is undoubtedly an exciting time for this franchise and the entire state.”
The jersey will be worn at least nine times this season, with the first chance to see the Jazz in the original threads on Nov. 7 at home against the Dallas Mavericks. The Jazz will wear the jersey on the other following nights:
- Dec. 6 vs. Houston
- Dec. 10 at Oklahoma City
- Dec. 21 at Portland
- Jan. 9 vs. Orlando
- March 4 vs. New Orleans
- March 13 at Phoenix
- April 1 vs. Charlotte
- April 7 at L.A. Lakers
The Jazz will continue to wear its four jerseys from last season, including the popular City Edition jersey, and are expected to announce a sixth jersey at a later date that should be worn on Christmas.
Fans can expect to buy the Classic Edition jersey in mid-November, as well as other products to celebrate the 40th season.
