ON THE DIAMOND — It’s the last weekend in July, which means college football fall camps are around the corner and the NFL will soon dominate the country’s sporting calendar.

But that leaves one more week where baseball still reigns.

Here are some of our favorite moments from the diamond this week. As always, click the video above for all of our Great Clips of the Week.

Here’s your foul bal— NOOOOPE

One local dad learned a valuable lesson in parenting during the Salt Lake Bees’ 11-6 win Saturday night over Nashville — small children don’t value foul balls like the rest of us.

Salt Lake's Kaleb Cowart tipped a foul into the upper deck during his two-RBI performance, and one fan made a brilliant one-handed catch.

The father, who was sitting with his son, tried to give the souvenir to the boy.

And here’s how the kid repaid him.

The father is Allen Witt of Saratoga Springs, according to a message he sent to the KSL Sportsbeat page on Facebook.

Witt was at the game with his three children (you can see each of them in the end of the video), and he said that a staff member from the Bees approached him after the foul ball incident and offered him three balls from the team — one for each of his children.

“Fun memory for us to share,” Witt wrote on Facebook. “Especially on his birthday, no less.”

And a happy ending after the, ummm... teaching moment. 🙈

First impressions

Sticking with the Bees, former Salt Lake catcher Francisco Arcia was called up to the Angels last Thursday — and it took him only two nights to make history with the Bees’ parent club.

Through two games in the majors, Arcias has 10 RBIs, the most of any player in such a short time frame since RBIs were first tracked in 1920.

Arcia went 2-for-4 with four RBIs in Los Angeles’ win Thursday night, then added a 3-for-4 performance with six RBI’s in the Angels’ 11-5 win over Seattle on Friday.

Whistle while you work

Brett Phillips is a recent addition to the Kansas City Royals, joining the club Saturday in a trade that sent Mike Moustakas to the Brewers. Drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 MLB Draft by Houston, the 24-year-old Phillips has spent most of his career in the minor leagues, including with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox of the Pacific Coast League in 2017.

But he’s already making a difference in The Show — and doing it in style.

Phillips saved a run with a daring catch in right field during the Royals' 6-3 loss Sunday to the Yankees. But more impressive is how he saved the run — with a tune in his heart and on his lips.

That’s how you whistle while you work.
